Fundamentally, they transformed an image of affection into an icon of hate who blesses precisely the cruelties that he denounced in scripture; this transformation occurred more gradually, over decades rather than months, but it is nonetheless disturbing through similar means, a bewildering emotional blow for many of us.

A Damaging Christianity Gains Ground

Hence I shall explain the Christ from my upbringing, as conceptually Christ is the focus within Christian belief, and given that the quickly increasing segment of Americans may possess limited understanding of him since they are atheists or agnostics or nones. I have no problem with these different approaches, nor with different religions; but I do think that there are pearls of significant worth within Christian narrative.

The evident and clear fact that the Jesus of the gospels requests a form of extreme compassion centered on the poor is what has always made Christianity rather a provocative belief system: appealing to the masses, but due to its intrinsic extremism needing to be controlled. During the 1950s it was controlled via weakening – Protestantism was so widespread that it basically sanctified existing conditions.

A Battle for the Highest Among Us

Hence I have become heartened to see the determined opposition against Trump emerge during the previous year. It has provided significant comfort to participate in developing the campaign that has taken to the streets via continuous gatherings, and seems to have inspired electorate to show up in significant amounts during minor elections. We will need to persist with it, and through comparable resolve, with American flags during all protests and calls to the highest qualities in US history.
